OSSI 1 (Open Source Satellite Initiative 1) is a nanosat project initiated by the South Korean artist Song Hojun.
The 950 g satellite has a beacon in the 145 MHz band and a data communications transceiver in the 435 MHz band.
This innovative satellite carries a 44 watt LED array to flash Morse Code messages to observers on Earth. Radio hams
can reserve messages by sending signals to the satellite then observers can see the messages at the scheduled time in
a flashing Morse Code LED pattern.
Mission details:
The OSSI 1 satelite was launched Apr 19, 2013 together with 6 other satellites.
The Aist-2 small satellite is attached to the service module's side of Bion-M, while
on the front of the sphere is the PSO (Platforma Stredstv Otdeleniya, Separation Mechanism Platform)
structure which carries a set of cubesat deployers.
The OSSI-1 cubesat, developed by a Korean artist, was
ejected from the PSO at 1613 UTC on Apr 19, and has been cataloged in a 258 x 549 km x 64.9 deg orbit.
