Description:

• The name HORYU comes from the symbol of Kyushu Institute of Technology. The launch of HORYU-1 was postponed in 2010 when the launch of HORYU-2 was announced by JAXA. HORYU-1 is now in storage at KIT. The HORYU-2 nanosatellite is a successor project of the HORYU-1 CubeSat project.
• Horyu 2 will testing an experimental high-voltage solar array system and observing corresponding spacecraft charging effects on the satellite caused by the high voltage.

Mission details:

• Was planned to launched in Feb 2012, delayed to May.
• Horyu 2 was launched by H-IIA flight F21 from Tanegashima on May 17, 2012 into a 1:30am local time sun-synchronous orbit at 670 x 674 km x 98.2 deg. The 7 kg satellite built by the Kyushu Institute of Technology, will study spacecraft charging effects and test a camera payload for Surrey Satellite.
