Mission details:

• Ekspress-MD 1 is also a telecommunications satellite, the first in the series to be manufactured by Khrunichev, using the same platform as used for KazSat, with the communications package once more supplied by Thales Alenia Space. Satellite’s body is a box with two vanes of two-segment solar panels. Located over 80 deg E.
• 8 C-band and 1 L-band transponder will provide secure communications for senior government leaders in western Russia.
