Apstar-2R

Replacement for Apstar 2 which is believed to have exploded shortly after launch (destroying the launch vehicle) on January 25, 1995.
In Aug 1999 Loral Space & Communications Ltd leased (via Loral Asia Pacific Satellite Ltd.) the satellite (27 C-band and 13 Ku-band transponders) through its remaining lifetime. It will replace Orion 3.
Under the agreement, Loral will also have the option to lease from APT replacement satellites after the Apstar IIR's useful life has ended.
One of the most powerful in Asia-Pacific service; 28 C-band, 16 Ku-band; China, Korea, Taiwan, Europe, Africa, Australia.
