Description:

• LEO Vantage 1 is the second of two demonstration satellites that Telesat ordered to investigate development of a constellation of communications satellites into low Earth orbit. The first demonstrator, LEO-2, was lost when Russia′s Soyuz-2-1b/Fregat-M rocket failed to achieve orbit in November 2017. LEO-1 was built in the United Kingdom by Surrey Satellite Technology Ltd (SSTL), based around its SSTL-42 bus, and carries a Ka-band communications payload, mass around 100 kg.
• Telesat′s LEO Vantage 1 satellite was launched in January on PSLV-C40 into a 496 x 508 km orbit. It raised orbit slowly between Jan 21 and Apr 5, 2018 and is now in a 996 x 1004 km SSO (Jun 2018).
