Description:

• KOREASAT-5A is a Korean-owned commercial communications geostationary satellite to provide Internet access, television broadcast and other multimedia services in Korea, Japan, the Philippines, Guam, Southeast Asia, and South Asia. Designed for a 15-year mission, Koreasat 5A is based on Thales′ Spacebus 4000B2 satellite bus and is destined to place Koreasat 5, a communications craft launched in 2006. Koreasat 5A is parked at 113 degrees east longitude. KOREASAT-5A will also offer coverage for maritime communications in the Middle East, the Indian Ocean, the South China Sea and the East China Sea.

Mission details:

• Koreasat-5A (Mugunghwa 5A ho) was launched by Falcon 9 on Oct 30, 2017. It is a Thales Alenia Space/Cannes Spacebus 4000B2 with a launch mass of around 3700 kg and a Ku-band communications/broadcasting payload for KT Sat (formerly Korea Telecom).
