INTELSAT 30 is a geostationary satellite, equipped with 72 Ku-band and 10 C-band transponders and designed for a 15-year
mission, covering Latin America. DirecTV Latin America has leased spacecraft's Ku-band payload to provide direct-to-home television
programming to the company's 18 million customers in Central America, South America and the Caribbean.
The Ku-band payloads, refered to as DLA 1 and 2 (Intelsat 31), will be used to expand DTH entertainment offerings and provide
backup and restoration services. The two satellites will be co-located with Intelsat’s Galaxy 3C satellite at 95°W, which DTVLA has
used since 2002.
Mission details:
Ariane mission VA220, vehicle 574, launched two communications satellites to GTO on Oct 16, 2014.
Payloads were the Intelsat/DirectTV joint venture, IS-30/ISDLA-1; and Argentina's first domestic GEO comsat, ARSAT-1. IS-30's Ku-band
payload is leased to DirectTV as DLA-1 for broadcast to Latin America.
