Mission details:

CHIPSat is a NASA University Explorer (UNEX) satellite, with UC Berkeley being the lead research orgasation. Satellite carries the Cosmic Hot Interstellar Plasma experiment (CHIP) which is planned to obtain spectra of the diffuse extreme-UV beckground.
The CHIPS instrument is designed to diagnose the physical properties of the plasma in the local bubble. It will carry out for the first time all-sky, high-resolution spectroscopy of the plasma's diffuse glow using sensitive detectors tailored to observe in a poorly explored ultraviolet wavelength band. Communication with the satellite will be via TCP/IP + FTP.

Started serving on 2 Feb 2003.
