Military communication
The Strela-1 satellite were prototype communication satellites for tactical communication.

Two satellites (Cosmos 83 an 90) carried an experimental RTG power source.

Those satellites form a network of 3 satellites orbiting in planes separated by 120°. They are used for long range communications by low power transmitters.
