Description:

Cosmos 2479 is a Russian military satellite. It is believed to be an Oko-class early warning satellite designed to detect missile launches with an infrared telescope. COSMOS 2479, believed to be the last in the current early warning system, will be stationed in geosynchronous orbit 22,300 miles (35,888 km) over the equator, giving the platform a view of nearly half of Earth.

Mission details:

Russia launched an Oko-1 (US-KMO, 71Kh6) early warning satellite into geosynchronous orbit on Mar 30, 2012 using the final Proton-K (8K82K) launch vehicle (serial 41018 with upper stage Blok DM-2 No. 117L, according to information on nasaspaceflight.com).
On Apr 10 the satellite was in a 35697 x 35902 km x 2.3 deg over longitude 80.1E.
