Cargo spacecraft "HTV-8" (Kounotori 8)

Description:

• Developed by the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency, or JAXA, as a contribution to the space station program, the HTV is 32 feet long and 14.4 feet wide. It is designed to carry both pressurized and unpressurized cargo, including equipment too big to pass through the space station′s hatches.
• HTV-8 (Kounotori 8) is the 8th flight of the H-II Transfer Vehicle, a robotic cargo spacecraft to resupply the International Space Station. The orbiter carried about 5.3 t of cargo, consisting of 3.4 t in the pressurized compartment and 1.9 t in the unpressurized compartment.

Mission details:

• On Sep 24, 2019 the 8th H-II Transfer Vehicle (HTV), Kounotori 8 (HTV-8), was placed in LEO by an H-IIB vehicle from Tanegashima. It carries another set of replacement batteries for the station truss. HTV-8 arrived at the station on Sep 28; it was grappled by Canadarm-2 at 1112 UTC and berthed on the Harmony nadir port at 1409 UTC.
• The Canadarm-2 unberthed Japan′s HTV 8 cargo ship at about 1230 UTC Nov 1, 2019 and released it into orbit at 1721 UTC. Burns at 1941 UTC Nov 2, 2112 UTC Nov 2 and 0141 UTC Nov 3 lowered the perigee to 250, 145 and about 12 km respectively.
  HTV 8 reentered over the south Pacific at about 0209 UTC Nov 3.
