- The Hermes II covered the development of a two-stage missile with the second stage being a ramjet vehicle launched after boost
by the first stage, a modified V-2 rocket.
- The second stage ram measured 214 inches long, a little more than 50 inches in diameter with a wingspan of 183 inches. Power was
from two ramjet motors with rectangular cells and openings placed at the leading edge of the wings. The maximum altitude was envisioned
as 66,000 feet and a speed of 3,180 feet per second.
- Missile 0, the first test vehicle, was fired on May 29, 1947. This most famous of the V-2 rockets went south instead of north and
crashed just outside Juarez, Mexico. No one was injured.
